MARITIMES & NORTHEAST PIPELINE OPEN SEASON DRAWS SIGNIFICANT MARKET INTEREST

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia and WALTHAM, Mass. – Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline (Maritimes) today reported a strong response to its open season for nominations for new natural gas transportation services in 2007-2008 along its 850-mile (1365-kilometre) pipeline system.

In response to the open season, customers requested natural gas transportation service for approximately 1.5 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) for deliveries in Canada and the northeastern United States.

The open season was conducted from Feb. 15 to March 31 to gauge market interest in transportation service for incremental supplies of natural gas that may become available through liquefied natural gas (LNG) or other supply projects that could connect to the Maritimes system in Atlantic Canada and New England.

“Our pipeline system connects directly to key market areas in Atlantic Canada and New England and increasing gas supply access to these markets will benefit consumers in these areas,” said Doug Bloom, president of Maritimes. “Our pipeline system can be efficiently expanded to serve new and existing customers and will result in lower rates allowing competitive deliveries of significant incremental supplies to growing markets.”

Maritimes plans to increase its capacity in both Canada and the United States to meet new market demand arising from responses to the open season. Maritimes will now work with respondents to finalize transportation agreements by June 1, 2005, and will proceed with project development activities, leading to planned regulatory filings for later this year.
