MEDIA ADVISORY: DUKE ENERGY MOSS BLUFF STORAGE FACILITY UPDATE

HOUSTON -- The fire at the Moss Bluff natural gas storage facility east of Houston is now out and the ongoing work to replace the new control valve assembly continues. The fire that began about 4:15 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, burned itself out at about 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25.

The methodical work at the site continues. Installation of the new valve assembly began this afternoon. Workers will continue through the night and on Friday welding the valve assembly into place.

Local Department of Public Safety and emergency response officials will make the final determination of when it is safe for residents who remain in the evacuation zone to return to their homes.

NOTE:   B-ROLL AVAILABLE

As a safety consideration and to eliminate distraction for workers at the site, Duke Energy this afternoon shot B-roll of the new valve assembly and its movement closer to the connection point on top of cavern #1. A 100-ton crane was utilized in the effort. The B-roll (broadcast quality Beta format) is now available to interested media outlets at the front desk of Duke Energy's primary Houston location at 5400 Westheimer Court (Westheimer and Yorktown just west of the Galleria). Please credit Duke Energy for any B-roll that is used.
