DUKE/FLUOR DANIEL AWARDED CONTRACT TO BUILD 620-MEGAWATT POWER PLANT IN PENNSYLVANIA

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Duke/Fluor Daniel (D/FD) has been awarded a contract by Duke Energy North America (DENA) to provide turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the 620-megawatt Fayette Energy Facility in Fayette County, Pa.

The facility will feature two General Electric 7 FA combustion turbine generators, fueled by natural gas or fuel oil, and operating in combined cycle with a General Electric class D11 steam turbine/generator. Commercial operation is scheduled for summer 2003. The value of the contract was not disclosed. The project was booked into Fluor Corporation’s backlog in first quarter 2002.

“Fayette Energy Facility is yet another example of how quality power developers such as DENA continue to move forward with strategically located and economically competitive merchant power projects,” said Jeff Faulk, president and chief executive officer of D/FD.

“The strength of our projects in the marketplace stems from many factors, but a key factor for us is D/FD’s ability to complete construction and commissioning to bring plants into commercial operation on schedule or ahead of schedule,” said Jim Donnell, president and chief executive officer of DENA.
