DUKE/FLUOR DANIEL TO BUILD 875-MEGAWATT POWER PLANT FOR SOUTH CAROLINA ELECTRIC & GAS
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Duke/Fluor Daniel (D/FD) has been awarded a contract by South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G) to perform engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for an 875-megawatt, natural gas- and oil-fired power plant in Jasper County, S.C. The project will feature three General Electric 7FA combustion turbines, one Alstom steam turbine for highly efficient “combined-cycle” power generation and will include selective catalytic reduction technology to provide for reduced nitrogen oxides in plant emissions. Commercial operation is scheduled for summer 2004. Peak employment during construction is expected to top 800 workers. The value of the D/FD contract was not disclosed. “Duke/Fluor Daniel has really helped move this project forward,” said Neville Lorick, president -- SCE&G. “Prior to construction we determined that demand growth called for us to expand our original plan for a 600-megawatt facility to provide for an 875-megawatt plant. D/FD helped make that happen quickly and effectively. This will enable us to deliver economies of scale and other economic benefits to our customers.” “All of us at Duke/Fluor Daniel really appreciate the continuing confidence that SCE&G places in our work,” said Jeff Faulk, president and chief executive officer of Duke/Fluor Daniel. “Our relationship goes back more than a decade, to when we began work on the Cope Generating Station. We’ve continued to work together on the Urquhart repowering project and now the
