DUKE ENERGY MAKES MAJOR DONATION TO RED CROSS; WILL MATCH EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTIONS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Duke Energy today announced a major contribution to the American Red Cross to aid in the recovery efforts associated with the tragic national events of Tuesday.

Duke Energy will make an immediate $500,000 donation to the American Red Cross. In addition, the company will make an unlimited dollar-for-dollar match of donations made by individual Duke Energy employees to the American Red Cross through Oct. 31, 2001.
