DUKE ENERGY GAS TRANSMISSION RECEIVES SAFETY AWARD FROM AMERICAN GAS ASSOCIATION

HOUSTON Duke Energy Gas Transmission (DEGT) has received the Safety Achievement Award from the American Gas Association -- the AGA’s top safety award. The award is given to member companies for outstanding achievements in promoting natural gas pipeline safety.

This marks the seventh time that DEGT has received the honor. Last year, DEGT had the lowest lost-time incident rate among large natural gas transmission companies.

"This award reflects the commitment and hard work of our employees and enhances the message that Duke Energy is a leader in pipeline safety. We are very proud to receive it," said Theopolis Holeman, DEGT senior vice president. "It is an honor that the AGA has again recognized the high value Duke Energy Gas Transmission places on the health and safety of our employees, customers and communities in which we operate. Our emphasis on safety grows as we strive to provide the necessary infrastructure to meet the growing demand for energy across the nation."

The award was recently presented to DEGT at the 2001 AGA Operations Conference in Dallas.
