Buccaneer Gas Pipeline Gains Approval From Landfall County

HOUSTON --Buccaneer Gas Pipeline L.L.C., a joint pipeline development between Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK - news) and Williams (NYSE:WMB - news), announced today that the project's landfall county, Pasco County, Fla., has approved the Buccaneer natural gas pipeline.

``Pasco County is the project's landfall site, so the county's approval to make landfall and cross the entire county, including offshore waters, is a very significant milestone,'' said Frank Ferazzi, senior vice president, Buccaneer Gas Pipeline.

The 674-mile Buccaneer Gas Pipeline system will traverse the Gulf of Mexico, making landfall at the industrially zoned Anclote parcel on Florida's west coast in Pasco County, Fla. Buccaneer Gas Pipeline received its Preliminary Determination on non-environmental issues from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in April 2000 and a Draft Environmental Impact Statement from FERC in August 2000. The company expects to receive a final certificate from the FERC early next year.

``Pasco County is a key element in the routing of the pipeline and we are very pleased that the Board of County Commissioners has determined that the pipeline is consistent with the Pasco County Comprehensive Plan,'' said Tom O'Connor, senior vice president, Buccaneer Gas Pipeline. ``We are committed to build and operate a safe and environmentally friendly pipeline that will bring natural gas to meet Florida's energy needs.''
