DUKE ENERGY NAMED “AMIGO OF THE YEAR” BY SER-JOBS FOR PROGRESS OF THE TEXAS GULF COAST

HOUSTON – The local branch of national non-profit corporation SER has presented its "Amigo of the Year" award to Duke Energy for the company’s long-standing friendship and on-going assistance in helping SER achieve its goals in the greater-Houston area. SER-Jobs for Progress of the Texas Gulf Coast Inc. aids in providing job search skills and placement of unemployed and underemployed individuals.

SER is an acronym for service, employment and redevelopment and means "to be" in Spanish. The Duke Energy award was presented last weekend during SER’s annual banquet at the University of Houston-Hilton. This year’s theme was "Adelante con SER" or "Go Forward with SER." Duke Energy’s Houston-based businesses have supported SER since 1982 by serving on its board, providing financial support and donating in-kind services, such as printing needs. In 1999, the local organization named Duke Energy its "Partner of the Year."

"Each year, SER recognizes some of the organizations that have gone the ‘extra mile’ to help us accomplish our mission for the disadvantaged in our community," said Jesse Castaneda, SER-Jobs for Progress of the Texas Gulf Coast executive director. "We couldn’t help but notice Duke Energy’s long-standing commitment to this effort. Duke Energy truly is one of our best amigos."
