CHARLOTTE, N.C -- Duke/Fluor Daniel (D/FD) announced today it has been awarded a five-year contract by Duke Energy North America (DENA) to provide operating plant services for DENA's Maine Independence Station, a 520-megawatt, natural gas-fired, combined-cycle power plant under construction in Penobscot County, Maine, near Veazie.

D/FD will be responsible for development of plant procedures, staffing and management of the operations and maintenance of the Maine plant. Staffing is in progress, and the plant is expected to employe about 20 when fully operational this summer. D/FD previously was awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract in 1998.

"D/FD is providing operating plant services to other facilities in the United States," said Ted Rosiak Jr., vice president of operating plant services. "The success of these facilities depends on high reliability and efficient, low-cost operations. We’re pleased that Duke/Fluor Daniel was able to win this contract."
