CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Duke Energy today announced the appointment of Sally Whitney as vice president of audit services and corporate security.

Whitney directed Duke Energy's enterprisewide Year 2000 Program, which was designated "best-in-class" in independent reviews. In that assignment, she was responsible for matrix management of more than 20 projects throughout the world to assure Duke Energy's systems were Y2K compatible.

Whitney joined Duke Power Company in 1977 in the controller's department. Since then she has had a variety of leadership positions in information technology and information management to develop and support computerized applications for areas including human resources, financial and materials management.

Whitney will report to Richard J. Osborne, Duke Energy's executive vice president and chief risk officer.

A native of Lancaster, Pa., Whitney received a bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Catawba College and a master's degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina -- Charlotte. Whitney is a certified public accountant in North Carolina. She also received her certification as a project management professional from the Project Management Institute of which she is a member.
