CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Cary Flynn has been promoted to senior vice president, corporate tax, for Duke Energy – planning and directing all tax matters for the corporation.

Flynn joined PanEnergy Corp. in 1992 as vice president, tax. After the merger of PanEnergy and Duke Power in 1997, he was named vice president, tax, of the combined company.

A native of Moline, Ill., Flynn graduated from Northern Illinois University with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. He earned his master's degree in taxation from DePaul University. He is a certified public accountant.

Flynn is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society and the Tax Executive Institute where he served as president of the Chicago chapter from 1992 to 1993. He is a past chairman of the Interstate Natural Gas Association's tax committee and 2001 chairman of the Edison Electric Institute tax committee.

Flynn and his wife, Helene, have two sons.
