DUKE ENERGY NORTH AMERICA APPOINTS PAMELA BADEN VICE PRESIDENT OF STRUCTURED TRANSACTIONS

HOUSTON — Duke Energy North America (DENA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Duke Energy, announced today the appointment of Pamela Baden as vice president of structured transactions. Baden will pursue commercial arrangements associated with DENA’s merchant power generation development activities across North America. She will report to DENA senior vice president of development Richard Sherrill.

"Our asset-based origination efforts are as important to DENA’s success as its relations with communities and the integrity of its facilities’ design, construction and operations. Pamela’s first-hand understanding of energy marketing and trading, risk management, development, project finance and deal structuring will be a tremendous benefit to Duke Energy as we pursue the aggressive development of our generation portfolio."

Baden, most recently served as NP Energy Inc.’s vice president of energy marketing for the western region. Prior to joining NP Energy in 1997, Baden worked at Enron Capital & Trade Resources. Joining the company in 1992, Baden held positions of increasing responsibilities within the Enron Power Marketing group including vice president of mid-market origination for the western region. In this capacity, Baden worked closely with Enron’s trading operation and had management responsibility for closing structured and non-structured deals with customers including utilities, municipalities, cooperatives and large industrial customers.

From 1989 - 1992, Baden was Transco Energy Marketing’s manager of eastern region marketing. She also worked as a senior geological engineer at Tenneco Oil Company from 1981- 1989. Baden holds a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering from Texas A&M University.
