CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Duke/Fluor Daniel (D/FD) has named Ron Barnes to the new position of senior vice president of operations with responsibility for directing the company’s worldwide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects.

"As Duke/Fluor Daniel completes its first 10 years in business, the company has grown to be a leader in designing, building, operating and maintaining fossil-fueled, power generation facilities in the rapidly growing market around the world," said Clarence Ray, president. "Barnes brings the experience and management ability needed for this position to ensure that the projects are completed to the highest standards."

D/FD has three regional centers for its EPC work in Charlotte, Houston and Aliso Viejo, California, with active and proposed projects covering more than 16,000 megawatts of fossil-fueled, power generation facilities around the world.

"This new generation of highly efficient, clean-burning power plants is at the heart of the company’s growth," Ray said. "We’ve got to make sure the organization and the management are in place to capitalize on this opportunity. In Houston alone, we’ve seen the work force grow from just a handful to more than 200 people."

Barnes has served as project director for power plant EPC projects in Puerto Rico, Texas and South Carolina. He was named vice president -- project director in 1998. Prior to joining Duke/Fluor Daniel in 1989, he served in a variety of engineering and management positions for Duke Power during years of extensive power plant construction. He joined Duke Power in 1972.

Barnes received a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering from Auburn University in 1967. He is a registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina and a retired captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He and his wife, Marty, live in Belmont, N.C.
