DUKE ENERGY NAMES ALAN HARRIS VICE PRESIDENT, CONTROLLER & STRATEGIC PLANNING

HOUSTON -- Duke Energy named Alan Harris vice president, controller and strategic planning for Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation, Algonquin Gas Transmission Company and Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline, L.L.C., the Duke Energy natural gas pipeline business units serving the Northeast market.

Harris' responsibilities include financial and strategic planning, accounting, billing, forecasting, budgeting and reporting functions for these interstate pipeline subsidiaries.

Harris joined the company in 1982 as director of gas accounting for Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company and Trunkline Gas Company. He has held positions of increasing responsibility within the controllers department, including director of general accounting and director of forecasting and budgets. He was named controller of Trunkline in 1991, became controller for Texas Eastern in December 1995 and controller of Algonquin in 1997.

Before joining the company, Harris was manager of gas accounting for Cities Service Company of Tulsa, Okla.

Harris received a bachelor of science degree in accounting in 1975 from Northeastern Oklahoma State University in Tahlequah, Okla., and a master of business administration degree in 1979 from the University of Tulsa. He is a certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Texas and Oklahoma state boards of public accountancy and the Financial Executives Institute. He is also serving a two-year term as chairman of the Interstate Natural Gas Association’s (INGAA) accounting committee and is past chairman of the INGAA/FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) accounting liaison group.
