CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Duke Energy Power Services (DEPS), the Duke Energy Corporation subsidiary that develops, owns and operates electric generation projects across the United States and Canada, has created two North American business regions and has named the executive vice presidents to head the new regions.

Richard J. Duszynski joins DEPS as executive vice president, western region. James M. Donnell, formerly DEPS’ senior vice president, has been named executive vice president, eastern region. Both are based in Houston and report to Paula Rosput, president and chief executive officer of DEPS.

Duszynski’s western region includes areas west of the Rocky Mountains. He is responsible for all operations, market development, strategic analysis, asset acquisition and swaps or sales. Donnell has similar responsibilities for areas east of the Rockies.

"Rick comes to Duke with deep leadership experience, having served in executive positions for both chemical and energy companies throughout his career. He has broad experience in operations, trading and marketing and financial and risk management. Jim is equally talented and knows our business from the inside, having progressed through the Duke organization. He brings entrepreneurial, trading and find management experience to the table. I have great confidence in his abilities."

Duszynski was most recently president of worldwide salt business for Harris Chemical Group, Inc., in Overland Park, Kan. Prior to that he held positions of increasing responsibility with Basis Petroleum, Inc., and Basis’ predecessor company Phibro Energy Inc., from 1989 to 1997. Also, he served as vice president of economics and planning for Phibro’s refinning subsidiary, Hill Petroleum Company, Inc. Duszynski began his career with Conoco, Inc., and its parent, E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Company, Inc.

He earned his bachelor of science degree in chemical and petroleum refining engineering from Colorado School of Mines and a master of business administration degree from the University of Notre Dame.

Donnell, before joining DEPS, was managing director of PanEnergy Trading and Market Service L.L.C. which became Duke Energy Trading and Marketing, L.L.C. upon completion of the merger in 1997. Prior to joining PanEnergy, Donnell was vice president of Natural Gas Clearinghouse and manager of field engineering projects for Texaco U.S.A. He has more than 16 years of energy-industry experience.

He graduated cum laude from Texas A&M University with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.
