CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Lara Simmons Nichols has been named counsel in the legal department of Duke Energy.

Nichols will be responsible for advising the company on corporate compliance matters on behalf of the corporate divisions and the business units of the energy services section of Duke Energy.

A native of Charlotte, Nichols earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania and her law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Nichols had previously been an associate in the law firm of Kennedy Covington Lobdell and Hickman, LLP, where she practiced in the area of commercial and regulatory litigation.

Nichols serves as a member of the Mecklenburg County Bar Executive Committee and is an officer of the Friends of the Charlotte Repertory Theatre. She and her husband, Steve, live in Charlotte.
