HOUSTON — Carol Graebner, formerly a senior counsel with Conoco, has been named associate general counsel of Duke Energy Corporation and will serve as general counsel to Duke Energy International (DED, the international development and asset management arm of Duke Energy Corporation.

DEI develops, owns and operates energy projects worldwide.

"Carol has extensive international energy experience and has excelled in each successive step she’s taken," said Bruce Williamson, DEI’s president and chief executive officer. "Her knowledge of business climates and governments in major portions of our three distinct operating regions -- Latin America, Europe and Asia — will be a tremendous benefit to our growing organization."

Graebner joins DEI from Conoco Inc., in Houston where she was most recently general counsel for Conoco Global Power Inc. and senior counsel for the parent company’s Business Development International group. During her 16-year career with Conoco, Graebner traveled continually and at one point lived in London for more than three years. She gained her initial professional experience at Pittsburgh’s Eckert, Seamans, Cherin & Mellott law firm.

A native of Pennsylvania, Graebner is an honors graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Penn., where she majored in international studies and Russian studies. She then earned her juris doctor degree at The American University, Washington College of Law, in the nation’s capital.

Graebner is a member of the board of directors of the Houston division of the American Heart Association.
