CHARLOTTE — Harvey J. Padewer has been named group president of the Energy Services unit of Duke Energy.

Padewer is currently senior vice president and general manager of Utilicorp Energy Group. In his new role, Padewer will be based at Duke Energy’s Houston offices. He will be responsible for the various business units that make up the Energy Services Group: Duke Energy Trading and Marketing, LLC; Duke Engineering & Services, Inc.; DukeSolutions, Inc.; Duke/Fluor Daniel; and the Global Asset Development businesses of Duke Energy International, LLC and Duke Energy Power Services, LLC.

He will also be one of seven members of Duke Energy’s Policy Committee — the key strategy-setting group of the company. Padewer, who will join the company on Jan. 1, will report to Richard B. Priory, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Duke Energy.

"Harvey comes to Duke Energy with a proven track record in the energy services field," said Priory. "For the past two years, Duke Energy has been expanding its energy platform around the world. Harvey brings to Duke Energy the knowledge and background that will build on what we’ve done and carry that momentum forward."

Padewer has been with Utilicorp since 1995. As head of the Utilicorp Energy Group business, he was responsible for more than 1,000 employees, while his unit generated revenue of more than $2 billion. While at Utilicorp he was also president of Aquila Energy, vice chairman of the board of Aquila Pipeline Corp. and president and Utilico Group.

Raised in New York City, Padewer earned his undergraduate degree from New York Institute of Technology and his graduate degree from Long Island University. From 1971 to 1986, he worked for General Electric, rising within the company through a series of positions of increased responsibility. During his final three years at General Electric, he served as development manager, Power Systems Ventures.

For the past decade, Padewer has worked intensively in the energy field. He was director of business development for Ultrasystems Development Corp. (now LG&E Power, Inc.). He served as vice president of project development for Coastal Power Corp. For six years, Padewer was with ABB Power Generation, Inc. — serving at first as vice president, sales and marketing and later as president, turbine power division.
