DUKE ENERGY: BRENT BAILEY NAMED ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL

HOUSTON – Duke Energy has named Brent C. Bailey associate general counsel. Bailey will serve as general counsel to Duke Energy Power Services (DEPS), the Duke Energy subsidiary that develops, owns and operates electric generation projects across the United States.

"Bailey has compiled a wealth of legal experience in the power marketing and power generation areas," said David Rehn, DEPS president and chief executive officer. "He has served as lead counsel on a number of major projects and thoroughly understands the intricacies of this business, including deregulation at the state and federal levels. We are pleased to have someone so well versed join Duke Energy and are confident he’ll contribute greatly to our overall business objectives."

Bailey joins the company from Enron Capital & Trade Resources Corp., in Houston where he was most recently senior counsel for the Electric Power group. Over the course of almost five years, he represented the interests of high-profile company subsidiaries such as Enron Power Marketing, Inc., and the managing partner of Richmond Power Enterprise, L.P. Previously, he was affiliated with several Houston law firms including Keck, Mahin & Cate, where he was a partner.

An honors graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Bailey earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics. He then earned his juris doctor degree at Baylor University School of Law in Waco, Texas.
