DUKE ENERGY AWARDS WINDFERN HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE W.G. MAGUIRE SCHOLARSHIP

HOUSTON —Elizabeth G. Vance, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard D. Vance of Houston, has received one of Duke Energy’s $10,000 W.G. Maguire Educational Scholarships. Vance recently graduated from Windfern High School in Houston and plans to attend Texas Christian University this fall. Her major course of study will be international business.

The scholarship program was established in 1963 by the late W.G. Maguire, one of the founders of Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company, as well as chairman and chief executive officer for more than 20 years. Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line is a predecessor company of Duke Energy.

An independent committee of judges selects the scholarship recipients based on academic excellence, character, personality evaluations by school faculty and performance on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.
