DUKE ENERGY AWARDS WILLIAM P. CLEMENTS HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE W.G. MAGUIRE SCHOLARSHIP

HOUSTON — Gordon Riha, son of Mr. and Mrs. Randy J. Riha of Sugar Land, has received one of Duke Energy’s $10,000 W.G. Maguire Educational Scholarships. Riha recently graduated from W.P. Clements High School and plans to attend Texas A&M University this fall. His major course of study will be microbiology and pre-medicine.

Riha is the grandson of John and Alice Riha of Midland, Mich., and Sara Hildebrant of Sugar Land, Texas.

The scholarship program was established in 1963 by the late W.G. Maguire, one of the founders of Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company, as well as chairman and chief executive officer for more than 20 years. Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line is a predecessor company of Duke Energy.

An independent committee ofjudges selects the scholarship recipients based on academic excellence, character, personality evaluations by school faculty and performance on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.
