DUKE ENERGY AWARDS MASSAC COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE W.G. MAGUIRE SCHOLARSHIP

HOUSTON -- Dustin Trent Okerson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Terry W. Okerson of Metropolis, has received one of Duke Energy’s $10,000 W.G. Maguire Educational Scholarships. Okerson recently graduated from Massac County High School and plans to attend Union University in Jackson, Tenn., this fall. His major course of study will be Christian studies.

The scholarship program was established in 1963 by the late W.G. Maguire, one of the founders of Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company, as well as chairman and chief executive officer for more than 20 years. Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line is a predecessor company of Duke Energy.

An independent committee of judges selects the scholarship recipients based on academic excellence, character, personality evaluations by school faculty and performance on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.
