CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 23, 1998 -- Duke Energy Power Services LLC announced today that William F. (Bill) Hall has been named vice president and general manager of California operations.

Hall will be responsible for all aspects of the operation of the Moss Landing, Morro Bay and Oakland power plants that Duke Energy Power Services is scheduled to purchase from Pacific Gas & Electric Company. The acquisition is the result of Duke Energy Power Services being the successful bidder in PG&E’s first power plant auction last November. The plants have a combined capacity of 2,645 megawatts.

"We are very pleased that Bill will be leading the operations of Moss Landing, Norm Bay and Oakland power plants,’ said Paula Rosput, president of Duke Energy Power Services. "Bill has a tremendous amount of experience in fossil plant operations, both in regulated and unregulated environments. He is uniquely qualified to manage our transition with PG&E in the coming months and determine how best to optimize these assets as the competitive energy market in California develops this year."

Most recently Hall served as regional manager for Duke Power’s 2,700 megawatt Allen, Riverbend and Lincoln power plants in North Carolina. From 1992 to 1996, he served as plant manager for the Mecklenburg Cogeneration Facility in southern Virginia. Hall joined Duke Power as an assistant engineer in 1975.

Hall received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia. He is a registered professional engineer and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Hall and his wife Grace reside in Mooresville, N.C and have three children. They will be relocating to California in 1998. Hall is currently on-site at Moss Landing with a Duke transition team.
