CHARLOTTE, N.C., -- Duke Power leads the electric utility industry in customer satisfaction for the second straight year, according to the recent American customer satisfaction Index.

As published in the Feb. 16 issue of Fortune magazine, Duke Power led a list of 20 electric utilities in overall customer satisfaction. Duke Power provides electric service to customers in the Piedmont Carolinas and is the electric operations business unit of Duke Energy Corp. (NYSE: DUK).

"This ranking is a tribute to the employees of Duke Power. It’s great to see that our efforts to provide superb customer service are paying off," said William Coley, president of Duke Power. "We want every customer to have a positive impression about Duke Power after any interaction."

To come up with the ratings, the National Quality Research Center polls more than 50,000 U.S. consumers each year. The University of Michigan then compiles the data and ranks companies in all industries and some major government services. Mercedes-Benz topped the overall list of 190 companies ranked in the index.

"While it’s gratifying to be ranked number one, we know how quickly that can change," added Coley. "We’ll continue to do our utmost to deliver service better than anyone else in the industry. That’s what it will take to succeed."
