HOUSTON -- Duke Energy Trading and Marketing, L.L.C. will provide up to 50 billion British thermal units per day of natural gas to BC Gas Utility, Ltd. beginning November 1999.

BC Gas received approval Friday from the British Columbia Utilities Commission for Duke Energy to deliver the gas through Northwest Pipeline under a 15-year contract.

This transaction underpins Duke Energy’s participation in Northwest Pipeline’s Columbia Gorge expansion project, which will increase Northwest’s ability to deliver natural gas into the Pacific Northwest market area.

"Participation in Northwest’s expansion project significantly increases Duke’s ability to provide peaking gas supply to meet the growing market requirements in the Pacific Northwest," said Jeff Stokes, senior vice president of Duke Energy Trading and Marketing. "In addition, this project provides diversification to BC Gas’ supply portfolio and effectively serves the increasing requirements for natural gas in the Vancouver area.

Duke Energy Trading and Marketing, which is 60 percent owned by Duke Energy and 40 percent owned by Mobil, markets electric power and natural gas to utilities, municipalities and other large energy users and provides comprehensive related services, including risk management and total energy management.
