DUKE POWER NAMES GARY PETERSON VICE PRESIDENT OF CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATION

CHARLOTTE -- Duke Power Co. has named Gary Peterson as vice president at the Catawba Nuclear Station.

In his new role, Peterson will be responsible for managing the station organization, which includes engineering, operations and maintenance, training, safety assurance, business services, commodities and facilities, organizational effectiveness and community relations.

"Gary’s experience as station manager coupled with his extensive industry knowledge make him a valuable asset to the Catawba team," said Mike Tuckman, senior vice president -- nuclear generation. "His leadership skills will continue support the Catawba goal of excellent operations."

A Nebraska native, Peterson graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He is registered professional engineer and has held a reactor operators license for eight years.

Peterson joined Duke Power in 1994 as general manager nuclear assessment and issues. Prior to joining Duke Power, he worked with the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) in Atlanta for 11 years where he was deputy division director - plant experience and maintenance departments.

Peterson and his wife, Linda, have five children.
