Cinergy Awards $100,000 “Community Success Grants” In Ohio And Kentucky
CINCINNATI, June 9, 2005 — The Cinergy Foundation recently awarded ten local
Ohio and Kentucky communities a total of $100,000 under the “Cinergy Community
Success Grants” program. The program funds will be used to help stimulate and
support economic development in the Greater Cincinnati area.
“In this first year, we received twenty-seven applications for a combined request
of over $350,000 in program dollars,” said David O. Smith, manager of economic
development in Ohio and Kentucky. “After thorough review, we selected those
projects that best represented the goal of creating or retaining non-retail jobs and
encouraging new investment in the area.”
Projects selected in 2005:
- City of Newport- $15,000 grant for land acquisition or new facility for
retention and expansion of existing industry.
- City of Reading- $15,000 grant for reuse of brownfield site for the expansion
of an existing industry.
- Clermont County- $15,000 grant for road improvements for retention and
expansion of an existing industry.
- Village of Woodlawn- $15,000 for road improvements for retention and
expansion of an existing industry.
- Butler County Port Authority- $10,000 grant to improve efficiency of rail
system services for existing industries and to assist in recruiting new rail-served
industries.
- City of Fairfield- $10,000 grant for road improvements for retention and
expansion of an existing industry.
- City of Forest Park- $5,000 for a feasibility study for the redevelopment of a
vacant, blighted building.
- City of Monroe- $5,000 grant for engineering and economic development
feasibility study/plan for a Joint Economic Development Zone Agreement between
Monroe, Middletown, and Lemon Township.
- Hamilton County Business Center- $5,000 grant for a collaborative pre-
incubation assistance program that enables new technology company
formation.
- Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission- $5,000 grant to develop
master plan for existing 1,700 acre area.
