Cinergy/ULH&P Partners With Mayor Callery And Retailers In Energy Saving Project Local Residents Encouraged To Buy Energy Efficient Light Bulbs To Save Energy, Money and Help Protect the Environment CINCINNATI, November 1, 2005 – Cinergy/ULH&P announces a partnership with Covington Mayor Butch Callery, and local hardware retailers to assist Northern Kentucky area residents save money on their energy bills by purchasing an ENERGY STAR® qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL). Wednesday, November 9 beginning at 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (or until supplies are gone), local customers can purchase CFLs for as little as $0.99 in the Commission Chamber at Covington City Hall. “Each ENERGY STAR qualified bulb uses up to 75 percent less energy than your typical incandescent light bulb and can prevent more than 500 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions over its lifetime – that’s a significant impact,” said Rhonda Whitaker, Cinergy Northern Kentucky area manager. “By switching the five most frequently used light fixtures in their home over to CFLs, customers can save more than $60 per year in energy costs.” Residents are encouraged to use the bulbs they buy to replace existing bulbs in their home’s five most frequently used light fixtures with the ENERGY STAR qualified CFLs. The most frequently used lights typically include the kitchen ceiling dome light, living room table lamp, living room floor lamp, bathroom vanity light and outdoor porch or post lamp. “We’re proud to support an event that benefits residents of Covington in so many ways,” said Mayor Callery. “Changing a light bulb is so simple, but it has a big impact on our utility bills, our energy consumption, and the quality of our air and water.” The event is being organized in conjunction with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy’s the national “Change a Light, Change the World” campaign, which promotes the financial, energy and environmental benefits of using ENERGY STAR qualified lighting products. A discount provided by participating retailers coupled with a $2 instant rebate sponsored by Cinergy/ULH&P will allow residents to purchase bulbs that normally cost $5 or more for as little as $0.99. There will be a purchase limit of 12 bulbs.
