Nantahala Lake - 5 Day Message History

Last Update: 4/23/2015 12:30:20 PM
The Nantahala River Basin has had significant rainfall and runoff into Nantahala Lake. Late this afternoon (Thursday, April 23), Duke Energy will partially open a spillway gate at the Nantahala Dam. Estimated flows are expected to be close to the 350 cfs Nantahala River Bypass recreation release. On Saturday, April 25, the flow will adjust down to nearly 250 cfs at the Cascades from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The flow will return to 350 cfs and remain at this rate until at least the morning of Monday, April 27. WARNING: High flows and the natural environment of the bypassed reach can create dangerous conditions. Fishermen should be alert to rapidly changing flow and dangerous conditions. We continue to closely monitor conditions and operate the hydro system to reduce impacts. Updated lake levels are available any time at www.Duke-Energy.com/lakes and at 800-829-5253. As always, we encourage those living along lakes, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone areas to pay special attention to changing weather conditions and take any necessary precautions. We will provide additional updates if conditions change.
