Tanasee Creek Lake

Last Update: 1/12/2015 10:00:42 AM
To facilitate maintenance work at Tennessee Creek Hydro Station this fall and winter, Duke Energy has gradually lowered Lakes Tanasee Creek and Wolf Creek. With the hydro station out of service, the lakes have gradually refilled. For Tanasee Creek Lake, the lake has risen and is now above elevation 81 feet (bottom of the spillway gate) and is spilling into the area known locally as Bonas Defeat. Wolf Creek Lake is expected to begin spilling by this weekend. Please note that with variable flow rates during the maintenance work, both areas below these two dams should be avoided. The plan currently calls for both lakes to spill until the maintenance work is complete and to then begin refilling toward the Normal Minimum Target level by early March 2015. The refill rate is based on the weather and work schedule. The boat ramps owned by Duke Energy and operated by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission will remain closed and reopen when the lakes have refilled. Please stay alert to changing weather conditions. Updated lake levels are available any time at http://www.duke-energy.com/lakes/levels.asp and at 800-829-5253. We will continue to closely monitor conditions and will provide updates as forecasts and conditions change.
