Budget Billing

What is it?
Budget Billing is a free service that makes managing your cash flow easier by providing a predictable monthly bill. There are two plans that adjust periodically based on your actual usage. Choose either the Quarterly plan or Annual plan.

Budget Billing is only available to business customers with average monthly Duke Energy bills of $3,100 or less.

Quarterly Plan

Recommended if you want to avoid a 12th month bill adjustment or credit:

  • We estimate your energy bill for the year based on previous billing records and divide that amount into 12 equal payments.
  • Your payment plan will be reviewed in the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th months. If your variance is greater than 10 percent, your payment will be adjusted automatically in months 4, 7, 10 and 1.
Annual Plan

Recommended if you want your monthly payment to remain the same:

  • We estimate your energy bill for the year based on previous billing records and divide that amount into 11 equal payments.
  • We settle up during the 12th month.
  • Your payment plan will be reviewed in the 6th and 12th months. On your 6th month statement you will be notified if your payment variance is greater than 30 percent. If it is, a new amount will be recommended. The change will be made at your request.
  • In the 12th month we will recalculate the past year's energy usage and notify you of your new monthly installment for the next 12 months.
How to Sign up for Budget Billing

Registered User

  1. Log in to Duke Energy Online Services.
  2. Click on "Budget Billing Program" on the left-hand navigational bar.
  3. Follow the prompts to sign up.

New User

About Online Services

  1. Register to create a User Profile.
  2. Once registered, click on "Budget Billing Program" on the left-hand navigational bar.
  3. Choose the Budget Billing Program option that best fits your business.
  4. Follow the prompts to sign up.
