Change a Bulb Save Energy, Money & Help Protect the Environment
Duke Energy has partnered with Alexandria and Ludlow mayors and local hardware retailers to help Duke Energy electric customers in Northern Kentucky save money on their energy bills by purchasing an ENERGY STAR® qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL).
Residents are encouraged to use the bulbs they buy to replace existing bulbs in their home’s five most frequently used light fixtures with the ENERGY STAR qualified CFLs. The most frequently used lights typically include the kitchen ceiling dome light, living room table lamp, living room floor lamp, bathroom vanity light and outdoor porch or post lamp.
“Each ENERGY STAR qualified bulb uses up to 75 percent less energy than your typical incandescent light bulb and can prevent more than 500 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions over its lifetime – that’s a significant impact,” said Rhonda Whitaker, Duke Energy Kentucky area manager. “By switching the five most frequently used light fixtures in their home over to CFLs, customers can save more than $60 per year in energy costs.”
The partnership was organized in conjunction with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy’s national “Change a Light, Change the World” campaign, which promotes the financial, energy and environmental benefits of using ENERGY STAR qualified lighting products.
