Foothills Retirees At Work
A group of Duke Power retirees from the Foothills Retiree Chapter recently worked with Reverend Chad Hendren, the director of HOPE (Helping Other People Excel), and other area volunteers to build a woodshed at HOPE Ministries in North Wilkesboro, N.C.
HOPE's vision includes: "Serving others by volunteering to assist in helping the helpless. Material needs will be met as needed. This will include the distribution of food, financial assistance, and other needs as they develop."
The new woodshed will provide covered, dry storage for firewood that will be donated by Duke Power retirees and others in the community, and which will be distributed to those in need during the cold winter months. Some of Duke Power's retirees have been involved in collecting and distributing the wood in the past, and they now have a central location for distributions in the area.
