Retirees
Duke Energy retirees are an active, integral part of the company, and are some of Duke Energy’s most significant ambassadors in the communities we serve. The Duke Energy retiree program provides a network of support where retirees can come together to participate in special projects, learn about latest company news and enjoy fellowship. The program incorporates 23 retiree chapters in the Carolinas and one Midwest chapter in Cincinnati, OH.
Retirees utilize their experience and skills to make a positive difference in the lives of many by partnering with schools and nonprofit organizations like the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, United Ways, Senior Centers, Hospice and many others. Their perseverance and dedication helps these organizations meet the critical needs in their communities.
Volunteering is a focal point of the retiree chapters. In 2008 alone, chapters collectively reported more than 218,000 volunteer hours. As part of the chapters’ focus on their commitment to community, each chapter selects one member, or a husband and wife, as their Volunteer(s) of the Year. Winners are nominated based on their participation in chapter activities, volunteer hours and their commitment and dedication to the community. Volunteers of the Year selected to receive the award for their service during 2008 were honored at a luncheon held on their behalf on April 16, 2009.
