The summer heat can present serious challenges for many people, especially those with health problems and those taking certain medications. Our Cooling Assistance Program assists the handicapped, elderly and/or low income families with energy costs associated with the extreme summer temperatures.
Duke Energy and The Duke Energy Foundation fund the Cooling Assistance Program. No funds or contributions are collected from employees or customers.
An annual corporate contribution of $250,000 is spread among the counties within our service area in the Carolinas. The same agencies that assist with Share the Warmth also help distribute the funds and determine the eligibility criteria for the Cooling Assistance Program.
