Community and service are integrated into everything our company does. Through the Duke Energy Foundation, we provide philanthropic support to address the needs vital to the health of our communities. Annually, the Foundation funds more than $25 million in charitable grants, with a focus on education, environment, economic and workforce development and community impact.
Education and workforce development are central to our charitable investments. Reading proficiency is the most important predictor of school success and high school graduation. By supporting childhood literacy programs, we help bridge the achievement gap and seek to end the cycle of poverty. Our investment in education and workforce development programs spans K-to-career to help ensure local businesses have a pipeline of talent and a diverse workforce. We will continue to build upon the legacy of our founders, whose dedication to community development and education has continued to enhance the regions where Duke Energy serves.

Local Community Development Grants
We offer local community development grants up to $10,000 to nonprofit organizations whose programs and missions support at least one of the Duke Energy Foundation's four investment priorities: education, economic and workforce development, environment and community impact. Applications may be submitted at any time.
The Foundation receives grant requests for funding during varied request for proposal (RFP) cycles specific to each investment priority. We review funding requests at the regional level and target investments in the areas where we believe the company can have the greatest impact on the well-being of our communities.

Sending help after natural disasters
When hurricanes, floods and other natural disasters strike, the Duke Energy Foundation works closely with organizations such as United Way and American Red Cross to provide relief in Duke Energy communities. Because we work directly with beneficiary agencies, we do not accept grant applications for disaster relief programs.
Building a strong foundation for future leaders
Forty-four schools in Pinellas County are expanding their science, engineering and math (STEM) programs thanks to a $267,000 grant from Duke Energy. The schools, all serving Title 1 students, will offer two academies totaling 88 programs.
The Duke Energy Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization funded with shareholder funds and governed by a board of trustees.
