National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Investing in the Future of Our Communities
The education of our children today has a profound impact on the vitality of our communities tomorrow. At Duke Energy, we’re developing programs that build and promote strong educational principles in our communities.
Teachers of Mathematics
Advancements in math and science education will prepare future scientists and engineers to tackle the challenges that lie ahead. To share our technical expertise and knowledge of best practices, Duke Energy has partnered with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)—a professional organization of over 100,000 mathematics teachers nationwide.
In the spring of 2003, Duke Energy and NCTM launched a professional development Web site for teachers of mathematics. Titled “Reflections,” this Web site will enable teachers to examine and develop their methods in a user-friendly, online environment.
Reflections is designed for current and prospective teachers, working individually or collegially, at school or home. Through Reflections, teachers can systematically observe, analyze and reflect upon classroom practices—and ultimately improve student performance.
Some of the resources available through Reflections include
- Best-practice lesson videos.
- Online discussion forums.
- Sample student work.
- Workshops for teacher self-analysis.
- Videos of teachers delivering model lesson plans in the classroom.
