Nuclear Generation
Duke Energy operates three nuclear stations in the Carolinas, and has safely and reliably operated nuclear stations since 1973. Duke Energy is considering adding new nuclear generation to its portfolio.

Nuclear engineering interns and co-ops – Positions are designed for students pursuing four-year degrees in undergraduate or graduate engineering studies within the following disciplines: electrical, mechanical, civil, chemical and nuclear disciplines.
What to expect
- Experience at a Duke Energy-operated nuclear station
- Opportunity to assist staff engineers who manage equipment reliability and perform analysis and design of structures, systems and components within our nuclear fleet
- Working in a highly procedural and process-oriented structure due to strict regulatory requirements
- Potential requirements for nuclear station unescorted access/security clearance.
Nuclear engineering technical co-ops – Positions are designed for students pursuing two-year degrees in studies with electrical engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, civil engineering technology, industrial maintenance technology, machining welding or other equivalent technical programs.
What to expect

- Opportunity to support site maintenance in activities including assembling, disassembling, maintaining and repairing power plant equipment and parts
- Working in a highly procedural and process-oriented structure due to strict regulatory requirements
- Potential requirements for nuclear station unescorted access/security clearance.
