Diversity & Inclusion Council

The purpose of the Diversity and Inclusion Council is to provide guidance for and feedback on enterprise diversity and inclusion efforts. Since talent development, staffing, workforce planning and work/life balance strategies are critical to the success of diversity and inclusion strategies, the Diversity Council may also provide input in these areas. An ancillary purpose of the Diversity & Inclusion Council is to educate and raise awareness among Council members themselves, so they may role model and champion diverse perspectives and inclusive behaviors within their own work environment.

Diversity & Inclusion Council Membership

The Diversity & Inclusion Council itself is intended to reflect the diversity within our company, including race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, country of origin, age, legacy companies, organizational level, job function, location and business group. A Diversity & Inclusion Council that reflects the composition of Duke Energy’s workforce helps ensure that the Council focuses on issues and opportunities relevant to the organization.

Diversity Steering Teams

Duke Energy’s Diversity Steering Teams (DSTs) assist in facilitating improved employee engagement and enhancing the creation of an inclusive culture. The DSTs were formed to provide advice to business group management on fostering an inclusive culture, helping to deploy initiatives and participating in and promoting learning activities. They focus on increasing an understanding of differences and similarities especially through dialogues, training and sponsorship of local projects. The intention is for the teams to operate at the group level in order to cascade information to all employees within the corporation.
