Temporary Service
By following these simple steps Duke Energy makes it easy for you to establish temporary electric service to a new residence.- Builder arranges for electrician to set the temporary meter base for the construction site.
- Builder contacts Duke Energy to apply for temporary service. Duke Energy representative enters application for service and construction work if needed and holds for inspection/permit if one is necessary. Representative issues work request number for builder to use to track service request online or through the Builder Line.
If line construction is necessary, Duke Energy begins the process before the inspection is received.
- Builder arranges for inspection/permit by city/county and supplies inspector with same construction address given to Duke Energy.
- City/county issues permit or performs inspection and Duke Energy obtains results. (Process of receiving the inspection/permit may vary from county to county.)
- Once an approved inspection/permit number is obtained, Duke Energy sets meter on temporary meter base.
