Jeffrey M. Stone Vice President Ė Internal Audit, and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer

Jeff StoneJeff Stone serves as the chief audit executive and provides executive oversight for the Duke Energy internal audit function. He is responsible for establishing the audit functionís strategic direction, ensuring the execution of a risk-based audit approach, attracting and developing professional talent, and acting as the functionís interface with the Audit Committee and executive management.

As chief ethics and compliance officer, Stone directs Duke Energyís compliance program, which provides oversight, tracking, and management of the organizationís compliance with federal and state laws, regulations and business conduct standards.

Previously, Stone served as vice president, controller and chief accounting officer for Progress Energy. He assumed his current position in 2012, following the Duke Energy/Progress Energy merger.

Stone joined Progress Energy in 1989 and held a number of leadership roles, including vice president of capital planning, executive director of financial planning and regulatory services, as well as various management positions in accounting, audit services and energy supply. Prior to joining Progress Energy, Stone worked as an audit manager for Deloitte & Touche in Charlotte, N.C.

A native of Thomasville, N.C., Stone received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, with a concentration in accounting, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a certified public accountant and serves as treasurer of the Southeastern Electric Exchange.
