To be considered for work with Duke Energy, prospective suppliers are encouraged to complete a supplier registration form.

Prospective suppliers are introduced to Duke Energy through both internal and external resources. We encourage prospective suppliers to submit a completed supplier registration form; however, submittal of the supplier registration form does not automatically put the prospective company’s name on the Duke Energy bid list. The information provided via the supplier registration form will aid Duke Energy in evaluating a supplier’s technical and financial data to determine a supplier’s qualifications. Historical purchase activity within Duke Energy, pre-qualification efforts, and industry experts are some of the other resources used to identify suppliers to be considered for proposal solicitations. Duke Energy’s Edwardsport IGCC project involves construction of a unique power plant incorporating new GE proprietary technology; as such, prior to being established as a qualified supplier for the Duke Energy Edwardsport IGCC Project, suppliers seeking to provide portions of the plant materials and equipment may be subject to additional reviews and requirements established by those companies furnishing the plant’s technology.

Local businesses will be evaluated and considered for inclusion in the process of soliciting proposals. We try to make the most economic choice to meet our customers’ needs and will use local and state suppliers as much as economically feasible.

Many factors enter into the development of the bid list, such as bonding capacity, insurance requirements, supplier’s track record, delivery time, and overall capacity of the supplier to meet the need being addressed. Additionally, the number of companies seeking to provide goods and/or services to Duke Energy is extensive and, therefore, Duke Energy is not always able to provide a proposal solicitation to all qualified suppliers.

The construction of the IGCC plant will require a broad spectrum of goods and services ranging from site work, complex engineered equipment, advanced instrumentation, and general construction services.

The schedule for the multiple facets of the construction activity continues to be developed at this time. However, current expectations are for initial packages begin to be issued during the second quarter of 2008 and the balance of the packages to follow in accordance with the sequence currently being developed.
