Conserving Energy

Each of us can do our part to keep the earth clean and green by conserving energy. By using less electricity, driving more efficiently and being mindful of waste, we can help preserve our energy resources for the next generation, help protect the environment and save money!

Try these energy-saving ideas:

  • Turn off the lights, TVs, stereo and video games when you aren’t using them.
  • Add an extra blanket to your bed instead of turning up the heat.
  • Use fluorescent light bulbs whenever possible.
  • Keep the oven door closed while you are cooking. Don’t peek!
  • Decide what you want to eat before you open the refrigerator.
  • Wash clothes in cold water when possible.
  • Take short showers instead of baths.
  • Heat your snacks in the microwave—it’s more efficient than the oven.
  • Let the leftovers cool before putting them in the refrigerator.
  • Only run the washing machine or the dishwasher when you have a full load.
  • Recycle!
  • Precycle! Look for products packaged in recycled and/or recyclable materials.
  • Avoid driving too fast—your car will get better gas mileage at 55 mph than at 75 mph.
  • Ride the bus, car pool, ride a bike or walk when you can!
